One of Queen Elizabeth’s endearing
qualities is the ability to talk on easy
terms with everyone, whatever his or
her station. Evidence of this came
during another visit in 1948 when, as a
result of talking to trainees, The Queen
discovered there was no public transport
from the College to Leatherhead, nor was
there ever likely to be. Her Majesty’s
personal intervention ensured the
provision of a bus service into town until
the resources of the College were
sufficient to run its own transport.
